Everything about the way you smoke a cigarette is dictated by the fact that the thing is being consumed by that glowing ember. You hold it the way you do because one end is burning. You tap it once in a while to get rid of the ash. When you finish off a stick you know it's time to get up because smoking break is over and you have to chuck that filter away. Your cigarette hand is constantly busy.

The funny thing about switching to e-cigarettes is that you gotta relearn how to smoke. With e-cigarettes, you don't have a burning end. You don't have to tap the ash off. The stick is much heavier. It doesn't burn down to a stub so you have to look at your watch to note the passage of time. Your hands don't have much to do, really.

And then there's this tiny part of you that can't help but feel sorry for yourself because half the fun of smoking is lighting up your cigarette. And because you're sucking on mist and rainbows.
